Exhibition of Decorative Hakata Dolls - from Traditional to Unique

Venue Takumi(Art & Craft) Gallery

This exhibition showcases the beauty of Hakata ningyo dolls, which boast a tradition and history of around 400 years. The exhibition makes suggestions for new ways to display these dolls for added enjoyment as interior decorations. It also presents a series of unique dolls created using motifs including the mascot of local football team Avispa Fukuoka, as well as popular animation characters, sports stars and celebrities. Please take this opportunity to come and enjoy the diverse world of Hakata ningyo dolls.

The Association of Master Hakata Ningyo Doll Makers was founded in 1983, and currently has 40 active members, including recipients of the Contemporary Master Craftsman Award. All members dedicate their days to the craft of doll making, striving to make continual improvements to their techniques. Do not miss this chance to see a lineup of some of their most representative works.

Multiple Layer Glass - The Art of Fire

Multi Glass is characterized by multiple layers of colored glass, each with its own unique characteristics. This glass takes on different aspects depending on the form and color combinations of works, as well as the reflection of light when viewed at varying angles. This fun exhibition is themed on aquariums and zoos.

Hakata Oriya Jihei Textile Exhibition

Venue Takumi(Art & Craft) Gallery

Hakata Oriya Jihei has been producing Hakata-ori textiles for four generations. It makes distinctive and original works, including matelassé obi sashes with a three-dimensional effect, and obi sashes woven with gold leaf using traditional Hakata-ori patterns. This exhibition features obi sashes for men participating in the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival.

Exhibition of Three Chikuho Craftsmen

Venue Takumi(Art & Craft) Gallery

Blown glass lampshades made using reclaimed glass from waste bottles. Exquisite bowls and plates with tranquil colors and a matte texture. Wooden trays and cutlery finished with oils that give full play to the inherent qualities of the grain. This exhibition features highly individual works from three artists created under the theme of “adding a touch of fun to daily life.”

Hand forming pottery/From 1:00pm, ¥2,000
