Nabeshima-dantsu Cotton CarpetsDyed fabrics

The methods for making Nabeshima-dantsu cotton carpets came to this area from China around 300 years ago. Carpets of this kind came to be crafted in the Ogi Town area of Saga, and are said to be the oldest of their kind in Japan. While carpets from overseas are made from wool, Nabeshima-dantsu are made from cotton thread, which could be found in abundance in the area at the time. These quality carpets are suited to Japan's hot and humid climate, and are revered by many people for their soft texture and character that develops with use.
