Exhibition of Hakata Okiage, Yanagawa Mari & Sagemon
In Hakata, raised cloth pictures are called “Okiage”. A wooden paddle known as hagoita, which is brought to life through colorful Okiage decoration, is a good-luck charm that is said to be able to ward off disasters. Sagemon is a decoration hung from the ceiling that combines 51 handcrafted trinkets such as Yanagawa Mari, decorated cotton balls made into intricate designs, and other colorful, delicately made accessories.
