In response to the changing times, artisans are crafting pieces tailored to fit modern lifestyles. These include combined-unit bon festival lanterns, compact, free-standing sumiyoshi (long cylindrical hanging lanterns), and paper lanterns for interior use. There will also be compact Buddhist altars in a modern style and products such as accessories born out of techniques used in the production of these altars.
