Chirimen-zaiku Momo group created new kinds of “sagemon” (hanging decorations) with unique designs based on traditional sagemon from the Yanagawa area of Fukuoka Prefecture. With sagemon using clam shells adorned with seasonal flowers and lucky charms, along with other decorations based on motifs from Japanese folklore, each item on display here is a labor of love. For this exhibition, the group also took up the challenge of making “okiage” (3-dimensional Japanese craftworks similar to a collage), a type of craft from Kurume and Hakata.
