Hakata Ningyo Dolls - Exhibition of Dolls for the Year of the Boar and Happy Occasions

On display and sale in this exhibition are lucky dolls, all created using Hakata Ningyo techniques boasting a tradition dating back four centuries. Japan has a custom of displaying dolls depicting the Chinese Zodiac animal for that year to invite happiness. 2019 is the Year of the Boar, an animal said to have a daring and resolute nature, warding off misfortune and bringing luck as it charges forward straight to its goal. In addition to boar dolls, you will find a diverse lineup of other popular lucky dolls for the New Year, including Ebisu and Daikoku, two of the most popular of the Seven Lucky Gods, as well as the cheerful homely woman Otafuku.
