Hakata ScissorsMetalwork

Hakata scissors boast a history of approximately 700 years. The origin of these scissors can be traced back to merchants who moved to Hakata from the Southern Song dynasty of China, bringing with them so-called "Tang scissors." At one time, Hakata scissors were made by swordsmiths in Hakata as gifts to the Shogunate. Hakata scissors are sharper than standard scissors because their method of production derives largely from sword production. Meticulous care has been taken in every aspect of their construction and this includes forge welding to join the ground metal base and steel blades.
