Magojidako is a type of kite that was first created at the beginning of the 20th century in the Tobata area of Kitakyushu City by a person called Magoji Takeuchi. Kitakyushu is located in close proximity to the sea and regularly experiences strong winds, the reason why it was a popular location for flying kites. It become a place where renowned kite makers would come to pitch their elaborate kites against each other. Magojidako kites are famous for being shaped like a cicada with large, cute eyes and unique colors.
